BMO App
Redesign

A personal concept redesign of BMO's mobile banking app — rebuilt around three things people actually do: check in, move money, and see where they stand.

The problem

BMO's mobile banking app felt legacy — dense screens, a dated visual language, and none of the polish people now expect from banking and investing apps like Wealthsimple. Common actions were buried, investment performance was hard to see at a glance, and card details were scattered across menus instead of living in one place.

Approach

This was a self-directed concept project, not a client engagement — so the direction came from competitive benchmarking against modern fintech apps and firsthand frustration with the existing BMO app, rather than formal user research. Three principles guided the redesign:

Before / after

The home screen is the clearest place to show the shift — from a dense, static balance display to a bold number and one-tap actions.

Key screens

Three flows, rebuilt around what people actually use the app for.

01
Home

Quick-access buttons for Send, Transfer, Pay Bill, and Insights sit right on the dashboard — the four things people do most, one tap away instead of buried in a menu.

02
Investments

A dedicated page shows how accounts are performing, with a timeline graph so growth is visible at a glance instead of a single static balance.

03
Cards

A virtual view of every card — balances, transaction history, limits, and bill payments — all in one place instead of scattered across menus.
